The Submerged Abaxial Epidermis Has A Very Thin Cuticle And Lacks Stomata. Dark Staining Slime Glands Are Present On The Abaxial Surface. Deep To The Upper Epidermis Are Several Layers Of Tightly Packed Palisade Mesophyll, The Chief Photosynthetic Tissue Of The Leaf.
