The Trevi Fountain The Trevi Fountain (Italian: Fontana di Trevi) is a fountain in the Trevi rione in Rome, Italy. Standing 25.9 meters (85 feet) high and 19.8 meters (65 feet) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. The present fountain. Commission, construction and design In 1629 Pope Urban VIII, finding the earlier fountain insufficiently dramatic, asked Gian Lorenzo Bernini to sketch possible renovations, but when the Pope died, the project was abandoned. Bernini's lasting contribution was to resite the fountain from the other side of the square to face the Quirinal Palace (so the Pope could look down and enjoy it). That way you can take more than one day to do this drive or combine it with one or more of the other scenic drives in the vicinity of the San Francisco Peaks. Miniscribe 2012 10 MB hard drive

This is the first hard disk I owned that is now a paper weight that I keep on my desk. It's a 10 MB (not GB) Miniscribe model 2012 hard drive from 1983 that couldn't even hold the raw file that this image is made from. One of the four read/write heads has gotten bent out of shape in the decades that it's been sitting around without its cover. That's a typical 16 GB USB flash drive beside it for comparison. I used a couple of white cards as the base and backdrop for this picture then used Photoshop to remove the seam where they meet. It's illuminated by natural light in my kitchen. The Ides of April are approaching and spring is slowly emerging. The grass is noticeably starting to turn green. Trees are starting to bud. Most notably, the ground in parks is starting to become solid enough (as opposed to muddy) to use for non-winter recreation activities. Even the sunshine is starting to feel spring-like. Poplar tree is commonly known as aspen and cottonwood. It belongs to a populus genus that is made of about 35 species of deciduous flowering plants which belong to the family Salicaceae. Poplar trees are native of the Northern Hemishphere. Western Balsam Poplar species was the first tree to have its full DNA code in the year of 2006. Poplar trees can grow anywhere between 15 to 50 meters tall with trunks up to 2.5 meteres in diameter. The bark is smooth usually even when tree gets older. Friend and colleague Dr Coop shows her love for her new Asus, a $400 Linux powered teeny tiny laptop. My first thought- its an iBook mini-me! But its all Linux, allt he time, and has apps that will do anything you need a laptop to do. And it will not be crunched by an airplane sudden lean backer. She, like many others in Arizona (ahem) would have bought an iPhone if not for the AT&T lockin- despite their glitz ads, their coverage in this state, even the Phoenix metro area... in a word... sucks. Up on the Mogollon Rim, the connectivity is worse to none. This was at a meetup of the Cyber Salon, a monthly get together started by my former colleagues at Maricopa. This was thie first one my cranky schedule allowed since August! I hope to make it to more, stay longer, etc. She sure looks happy, eh?. A hot spring discharges 77°C (~171°F) water into Hot Springs Creek, Akutan Island, Alaska, Akutan Volcano (photo). Numerous industry-led geophysical studies and test drilling in the past few years have proven the existence of a geothermal resource. USGS field studies completed in 2012 suggest that the available geothermal resource may be even larger than previously recognized. The current heat output of the hot spring system is estimated at 29 megawatts – nearly ten times higher than measured in the early 1980s. This large increase may reflect the volcanic and seismic events of the 1990s, and if so, it cannot be considered a short-term anomaly. Modern geothermal plants could use this heat to generate several MW of electricity. One MW of electric power would supply the needs of about 750 homes. This drive takes you all the way around Arizona's highest mountain, winding through a land of pine forests and aspen groves, open prairies and rustic homesteads. Autumn turns the mountain to gold, filling forest roads and trails with visitors come to enjoy the colorful display. Because the road becomes very rough and rocky between Bear Jaw and Abineau canyons, a mid to high clearance vehicle is required to complete the loop. However, fall color can be seen on either end of the road accessible to low clearance passenger cars. There are a number of places along this route where you can stop to take a hike, enjoy a lunch or even set up a primitive camp. That way you can take more than one day to do this drive or combine it with one or more of the other scenic drives in the vicinity of the San Francisco Peaks. I love the way the towpath vegetation has been left unmown, apart from Narrowboat moorings near the Locks. The Trent & Mersey Canal is to the left of the path and the Wheelock Rail Trail runs behind the hedge on the right. This particular stretch is probably wide enough for two bikes to pass each other; normally! But not today; even though the path looks wide enough to hold a picnic. #dontgetmestarted Summers afternoon in the Cheshire Countryside 26/06/2017. Dusky dolphins (Lagenorhynchus obscurus) are slightly smaller than common dolphins at 1.6–2.1 metres long and 50–90 kilograms in weight. They have tapered diagonal stripes along their side. Their main foods are krill, copepods and small fish. The average size of pods is 6–15, but groupings of several hundred or even thousands are often seen. Rain! More rain! I am okay with all the rain, but I still like to see the colourful flowers. It is fortunate that flowers also can be grown indoors. There is so much choice. The indoor flowers can be any colour or size one wants. The other good thing about indoor flowers is that they can be moved around at any time. Some indoor flowers even need no water, food or soil. Using Science to Improve Infrastructure — In this photo, we see Paul Schauer (USGS) running a level survey for the streambed scour project in Seward, Alaska. The goal of this type of work is to evaluate the scour susceptibility of bridges in order to identify structures that require mitigation of the scour problem, annual monitoring, or near real-time scour monitoring. Bridge scour is basically the removal of sediment (like rock, sand, etc) from around the bridge causing it to weaken. Streambed scour at bridges is the leading cause of bridge failure in the United States. The costs associated with restoring damaged structures are substantial, but the indirect costs associated with the disruption of traffic can be up to five times greater. These costs and the societal repercussions are even greater in Alaska, where alternate land routes between many cities do not exist. Flood damage to two bridges on the George Parks Highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks closed the highway for four days in August 2006 and repair costs to these structures and others damaged during the flooding are estimated at over 13 million dollars. Here it is 12 ºC warm. I am feeding the swans here. Nonstop and each 5 min comes a Westgerman state observer and is taking pictures of me and my bike even. Then coming 4 Westgermans and one with red hairloss is throwing brutally stones to the swans and is hiting them and says: "The swans are so aggresively to all persons. Hahaha". The rest of his friedns are ugly. One woman is walking with them. A type in red jacket is persecuting me since 30 min and is watching back and forth. His car is parked in the near. That is not all and the boat driver comes again. If you feed the swans, he is driving here with full speed and makes waves that all the fodder is disappearing from the waterside and the swans can not find the fodder. Every time. The commute home after all long week in the office is a time to wind down and transition into the calmness of home life. However, this transition can be challenging depending on the nature of the commute. In large urban areas, the commute can be more stressful than the work day. I have commuted in major urban areas with clogged multilane freeways and have commuted in rural areas with quiet roads. I much prefer the latter. I fantasize about a commute that involves no traffic (of the motorized kind) at all. I imagine a tree lined path with no cars, trucks or even buildings. The only other commuters I would see would be four legged or winged. This trail on the east side of Short Hills Provincial Park in Thorold, Ontario connects the dead ends of Wiley Road and Eller Road. It appear as if this was once part of one or the other of these two roads. Today, it is a hiking, cycling and equestrian trail. An idea route for a bucolic commute without traffic. There is a medium-strong, fresh tea rose fragrance, with a cool violet character typical of its colour group. It has attractive, smooth green foliage. Good repeat-flowering from early summer onwards. Gives you a nice amount of light. You can see how the leafs are all so sharp even thought it was night, raining a lot.
