Mount Etna Mount Etna (Αἴτνη (Aítnē) in Classical Greek, Aetna in Latin, also known as Muncibeḍḍu in Sicilian and Mongibello in Italian, a combination of Latin mons and Arabic gibel, both meaning mountain) is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, close to Messina and Catania. It is located on the site of a pre-existing Lombard church, which the lower part of the campanile belongs to. Destroyed in 1004, the church was rebuilt from around the end of the 11th century (including the crypt, the transept and the choir), and finished in 1155. It is characterized by an extensive use of sandstone and by a very long transept, provided with a façade and an apse of its own. The building is on two levels. Downstairs, organized around a central hall, two ambulatory placed one north and one south, make the plan more extensive than the upper. The latter is in fact smaller and has four terraces corresponding to the roofs of porches on the lower floor walkers. Host of celebrities and historical figures such as Mozart, Rossini, Tsar of Russia, Vittorio Emanuele III and President Luigi Einaudi, who stayed at this house. A wooden bridge links the cottage to the shore of the lake whose perimeter is surrounded by a platform built with blocks of stones from Vesuvius. Cappadocia (or Capadocia, Turkish Kapadokya, Persian Katpatuka meaning \\\the land of beautiful horses\\\), was an extensive inland district of Asia Minor (modern Turkey). The Cappadocia region is largely underlain by sedimentary rocks formed in lakes and streams, and ignimbrite deposits erupted from ancient volcanoes approximately 9 to 3 million years ago (late Miocene to Pliocene epochs). The rocks of Cappadocia near Goreme eroded into hundreds of spectacular pillars and minaret-like forms. The volcanic deposits are soft rocks that the people of the villages at the heart of the Cappadocia Region carved out to form houses, churches, monasteries. This is a large tern, second only to Caspian Tern but is unlikely to be confused with that carrot-billed giant, which has extensive dark under wing patches. Royal Tern has a long yellow bill, pale grey upperparts and white underparts. Its legs are black. In winter, the black cap becomes patchy. Juvenile Royal Terns have a scaly-backed appearance. The call is a characteristic loud grating noise like a Sandwich Tern.
