Robert Robey started business in 1854, manufacturing portable steam engines and thrashing machines. His range of agricultural equipment rapidly expanded; in the Great Exhibition of 1862 "fixed engines, traction engines, ploughing tackle, corn mills, saw benches etc" were on display and soon a complete range of mining equipment was on offer from winding and pumping engines to locomotives, cages and kibbles. About Us About Robey Robey was an innovative firm. Traction engines were built to their own designs and to the patents of others, such as Thomson (road steamers), Savory (ploughing engines), Wm. Box and others. The fixed 'Undertype' was introduced in 1872 and electric motor pumps were on offer by the 1890s. By the turn of the century the firm had been incorporated into a limited company, the works had expanded to cover 15 acres and 20 000 engines and plant had been built. Stationary engines of many types were added to the range, such as the 'Quick Revolution' vertical, for electrical generation. Indeed Robey's 'Globe works' was said to be the first factory in the U.K. lit by electricity. Engines with simple slide valves, expansion gear, piston valves and drop valves were developed for application in many industries (our Class E is a good example of the latter). Colliery winders up to 84" stroke were amongst the largest of these, exported all over the world. Many are still in use in India and elsewhere. The Trust owns one of three examples preserved in England. 'Overtypes', 'Superheater' and 'Uniflow' engines were sold, the latter, the most efficient type of steam engine made, being a speciality of the firm. Engines were made to every configuration; horizontal, vertical and diagonal; duplex, tandem and cross compound cylinders; open and high speed enclosed, all in a variety of sizes and powers. Spooky Bus Stop

The first picture from my very early morning outing to Acadia National Park. This was inside the Blackwoods Forest Campground, which is only open for hike in access during the winter, giving things a spooky vibe. It was the wide open spaces that first brought the pioneer farmers up into the Mackenzie Basin. Large station runs were established with sweat and dog, beginning the Mackenzie's long and on-going association with the high country sheep station. Lake Tekapo was formed thousands of years ago when the glacial ice from the last ice age retreated, leaving behind a natural dam of rock debris behind which the lake was formed. It was on this ancient debris that Mt John Station was established and from the station's high points, stunning vistas of Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie are a delight to behold. This is an illustrated copy of four of the five poems that comprise the Khamsah of Niẓāmī Ganjavī (d.605 AH / 1209 CE). It does not include Laylá va Majnūn. The text was copied by a certain Yādkār the Calligrapher (al-Kātib) in 935 AH / 1529 CE, most probably in Safavid Iran. An illuminated double-page composition opens the manuscript and each poem is initiated with a decorative headpiece. The miniatures appear to have been repainted at some point in the manuscript’s history. Their date and provenance are open to question. The textblock is bound in late Zand lacquer covers with scenes depicting Bahrām Gūr hunting and Khusraw watching Shīrīn bathing. Incipit page with an illuminated headpiece introducing Sharafnāmah (the first part of Iskandarnāmah). Secret Canyon Trail

Secret Canyon Trail **Sedona Loop Hike - Secret Canyon, David Miller, Bear Sign, and Dry Creek Trails 2009-03-18: With the increasingly long days, we decided to hike the Secret Canyon, Dave Miller, Bear Sign, and Dry Creek loop for our midweek hike. The entire loop is approximately 6.5 miles long. The loop starts at Secret Canyon trailhead, following the first two miles of the trail through wide open canyon with fantasic redrock views. David Miller Trail comes in from the left right before Secret Canyon Trail turns to go deep into Secret Canyon. David Miller serves as a joiner trail between Secret Canyon and Bear Sign Trails. The trail is one mile long, with a moderately strenuous (but thankfully short, quarter mile) climb up to a pass. The views from the trail are absolutely fantastic, however the pass itself is fairly heavily treed, so be the best views are from the trail before reaching the pass. The trail on the Bear Sign Canyon side of the pass is steeper and the canyon is heavily forested. The descent from the pass to the canyon floor is approximately 200 vertical feet. Turning right on Bear Sign Trail leads 2.25 miles through the heavily forested, steep, narrow canyon. The canyon is very pretty, and a great hike for escaping the heat on warmer days. The trail drops down into the wash nears the end, joining up at Dry Creek Trail where two drainages meet. Veering left on Dry Creek Trail, the trail offers some nice canyon views before arriving at the Dry Creek/Vultee’s Arch trailhead after 0.75 mile. Secret Canyon trailhead is a mile hike down the dirt road from the Dry Creek/Vultee’s Arch trailhead. The silvereye has a wide distribution throughout New Zealand. They can be found from sea level to above the tree line but they are not abundant in deep forest or open grassland. Slightly smaller than a sparrow, the silvereye is olive-green with a ring of white feathers around the eye. Males have slightly brighter plumage than females. They have a fine tapered bill and a brush tipped tongue like the tui and bellbird. Silvereyes mainly eat insects, fruit and nectar. Coprinus comatus, the shaggy ink cap, lawyer's wig, or shaggy mane, is a common fungus often seen growing on lawns, along gravel roads and waste areas. The young fruit bodies first appear as white cylinders emerging from the ground, then the bell-shaped caps open out. The caps are white, and covered with scales—this is the origin of the common names of the fungus. The gills beneath the cap are white, then pink, then turn black and secrete a black liquid filled with spores (hence the “ink cap” name). This mushroom is unusual because it will turn black and dissolve itself in a matter of hours after being picked or depositing spores. Carl Zeiss Jena DDR 135mm f3.5 Sony Alpha A300 Test shot taken with a Carl Zeiss Jena DDR 135mm f3.5 M42 lens with an aperture of f3.5. When I purchased this lens the aperture blades did not move at all and it was stuck wide open. After dismantling it, cleaning it thoroughly and putting it back together (along with much swearing) it now works properly again. This is one of the first photos taken to check it works as it should.
