Located near Duntroon, between Oamaru and Omarama in Otago, the Elephant Rocks are fairly straightforward to find: from near Duntroon, take Livingston-Duntroon Road and follow the signposts until you get to the Elephant Rocks.The Elephant Rocks are massive limestone formations sitting in a sea of grass on private farmland. The rocks were once sand at the bottom of the sea that accumulated 25 million years ago. These sediments were buried and the pressure turned the sand into rock, or limestone. When the whole area of limestone lifted and surfaced, the forces of the wind and water did their part in shaping the limestone.The rocks come in all shapes and sizes, and are popular with climbers, especially for doing some serious bouldering. The area may also give some people a certain sensation of dÃ©jÃ vu; especially those that are fans of â€œThe Chronicles of Narniaâ€ movie: the Elephant Rocks served as a location for Aslanâ€™s camp. Large station runs were established with sweat and dog, beginning the Mackenzie's long and on-going association with the high country sheep station. Lake Tekapo was formed thousands of years ago when the glacial ice from the last ice age retreated, leaving behind a natural dam of rock debris behind which the lake was formed. It was on this ancient debris that Mt John Station was established and from the station's high points, stunning vistas of Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie are a delight to behold. The Wairepo Arm is a part of the bigger Lake Ruataniwha, located near Twizel on New Zealandâ€™s South Island. The entire South Island is one of the most photogenic places Iâ€™ve been; it seems that at ever turn in the road or over ever hill crest is another stunning landscape begging to be photographed. It is located in the same region as the smaller but more famous and accessible Milford Sound. It took second place after Milford Sound as New Zealand's most famous tourism destination. History Doubtful Sound was named 'Doubtful Harbour' in 1770 by Captain Cook, who did not enter the inlet as he was uncertain whether it was navigable under sail. It was later renamed Doubtful Sound by whalers and sealers, although it is not technically a sound but a fiord. Lake Wanaka is location at the foot of the Southern Alps of NZ Sth Island with the wilderness of Mt Aspiring National Park nearby. Roys Bay is at the southern end of Lake Wanaka. Rooted firmly into the earth near the shore of Roys Bay is a lone tree. On high tide its base is submerged. How it got there I don't know. Was it a seed dropped by a bird many years ago, maybe. One thing's for sure, it's a very popular tree with photographers, painters and sightseers. A famous land mark to the area. This is my office! As a tour coach driver I see scenes like this on a daily basis. To be able to drive the most beautiful country in the world is a great honour. Here is an hdr photograph taken from the Natural History Museum. Located in London, England, UK. Photography is allowed in the NHM, but the use of tripods isn't allowed. Knowing this in advance I decided to bring a photographic bean bag with me. I strapped the camera on to the photographic bean bag, which was then placed on the railings. NO tripod was used when taking the photographs for the HDR image.

The Hollyford Track follows the river's course. Part of the river's course is traditionally regarded as the boundary between the Southland and Otago regions.
