Product of a Young Man's Boredom

An interesting picture is better with a good story. This large cedar bush grows adjacent to our swimming pool. It is not te best location, since these trees drop a lot of debris into the pool. But it makes for a nice, lush green barrier, extra special to have here in Arizona. A few years ago, we trimmed back all of the greenery since it was overgrown, and while before, it was one large green blob, it has grown back more along the lines of its main branches. What we know is that over the weekend, my 24 year old step son, a bit bored on the weekend, looked up at the tree and had some inspirtation from Edward Scissorhands- so he grabbed a saw, and knocked down a branch that was in the middle (sitting in the blue trash can) leaving us what is obvious, in an anthropomorphizing view, a giant green hand. I have to admit, I agree, and just smile at the thought train that went through his head. I like the big green hand, so let's give a hand to our live in artist!. Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice. The masks are typically worn during the Carnival of Venice, but have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status. The mask would permit the wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was thus useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters. The water streets of Venice are canals which are navigated by gondolas and other small boats. Gondolas are hand made using 8 different types of wood (fir, oak, cherry, walnut, elm, mahogany, larch and lime) and are composed of 280 pieces. The oars are made of beech wood. The left side of the gondola is longer than the right side. This asymmetry causes the gondola to resist the tendency to turn toward the left at the forward stroke.
