The Schist Villages consist of 24 villages spread over in the Central Region of Portugal in an area of immense beauty and offers endless possibilities for recreation. The houses are mixed up in the landscape dark-colored shale. Some are abandoned, others should be recovered as, where traditions and materials were kept. These buildings are rough but beautiful at the same time before their architectural simplicity, where the shale is invariably used in walls and slate roofs. Generally buildings are accompanying the slope of the land and as such, have two floors. The store, on ground floor was meant for animals and housed upstairs to the owners. The little doors and tiny windows helped in the task because of the limited size of these openings let heat escape to guess the animals. How man and nature were one, some thick walls can hide inside a rock, which significantly reduces the usable area. Because they are all built very close together, the houses choked the streets, making them so narrow that not allowed for the passage of a bullock cart. Moreover, it is estimated that some of these paths have no more than a meter wide, forcing everything to be transported on their backs. The clay that served as the insulator and the stones with which to do the walls. This is a deluxe copy of the Khamsah (quintet) of Amīr Khusraw Dihlavī (d. 725 AH / 1325 CE). The manuscript was written in nastaʿlīq script by one of the greatest calligraphers of the Mughal atelier, Muḥammad Ḥusayn al-Kashmīrī, honored with the epithet Zarrīn Qalam (golden pen). This copy of Dihlavī's Khamsah, likely produced in Lahore (present-day Pakistan) in the late tenth century AH / sixteenth CE, is associated with the patronage of Akbar (r. 963-1014 AH / 1556-1605 CE). The manuscript bears the names of a number of painters and illuminators. The illustrations bear ascriptions to the following artists: Laʿl (Lāl), Manūhar, Sānwalah, Farrukh, Alīqulī, Dharamdās, Narsing, Jagannāth, Miskīnā, Mukund, and Sūrdās Gujarātī. The illuminators are Ḥusayn Naqqāsh, Manṣūr Naqqāsh, Khvājah Jān Shīrāzī, and Luṭf Allāh Muẕahhib. The borders are all elaborately illuminated with animal, bird, and geometric motifs, as well as human figures engaged in such activities as hunting, praying, and reading. The lacquer binding, decorated with pictorial scenes, is contemporary with the manuscript. Eight leaves from this copy of the Khamsah of Dihlavī are housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (13.228.26-33). This illuminated frontispiece has a central twelve-pointed star (shamsah). King Rama V later added to the structure and housed a Buddha relic from India in the Chedi. The concrete walls were added during World War II to prevent the hill from eroding. Every November a large festival, held on the ground of Wat Saket, includes a candlelight procession up the Golden Mount.
