The mountain poses magnificently for photographs, and is one of the most often photographed mountains from the town of Grindelwald. An 72 years homeless man asking for money in some street of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He first had no intention to be in a photo or even talk, but just like a child, after a while he started taking confidence and telling me so many things about his life. A world that every person who passes by wouldn't even think. I'll soon write a post with all this, but for now, i'll just post this photo where his eyes speaks for itself. Hope you like it! Secret Mountain Trail. 2009-05-06: On the fourth day of our camping trip on the Mogollon Rim above Sedona, we headed to Secret Mountain Trail #109. The Mangums (authors of Flagstaff Hikes) list this as one of their favorite trails, mentioning they usually stop just past Secret Cabin on the edge of the mountain where there’s a nice view. The weather was unseasonably hot, and we chose this trail not only because it’s interesting, but because it stays at fairly high elevation (instead of diving down into a canyon like so many of the trails in this area). The trail starts off running along a bit of a ridge up to a knob where there are some fantastic views. Diving down to a narrow saddle, the trail meets the top of Loy Canyon Trail, then climbs up to a fairly flat run. Around 1.0 mile are the remains of an old dry tank and corral. It’s almost easy to miss the corral because there’s just a few posts left, as well as a rusty old dredge. Off to the left just past the corral is Johnson Tank. The tank wall reveals signs of masonry work where the dirt has eroded away. Past Johnson Tank, the trail runs above and to the left of a ravine, where two more tanks hold water. The first, Masonry Tank, is built using local stones to dam a narrow, rocky section of the creek bed. The dam creates a small, shallow pond. Below Masonry Tank is Cement Tank, created from three slabs of preformed concrete. This dam creates a rather large, long, and narrow pond which runs back almost to Masonry Tank. There is a rough footpath running from Cement Tank to above Masonry Tank, a lovely diversion from the main trail. According to the Mangums, this area of forest is virgin. Near Cement Tank, the trail descends to a bench along the creek bed where another, more complete corral and Secret Cabin are situated (1.8 miles from the trailhead). Secret Cabin is in fair shape, its walls standing but its roof has collapsed. According to the Mangums, the cabin was built as a failed homestead, and was later inhabited by a family of polygamous Latter Day Saints escaping persecution, then horse thieves who’d bring stolen horses up Loy Canyon from Sedona en route to Flagstaff and northern destinations. Heading uphill past the cabin, the trail leads up to a ridge with a nice view and more corrals. The main trail leads off to the left for another 2.8 miles. Since it was pretty hot weather, we decided to follow the Mangums' recommendation: we had lunch in the shade of a tree, then turned around and headed back to the trailhead, diverting down into the ravine to explore the tanks on the way back. Coprinellus disseminatus

The Fairy Inkcap, Coprinellus disseminatus, rarely ventures forth alone or even with just a few friends; more often it forms dense masses swarming over rotting tree stumps and roots. These gregarious little fungi occur from early spring until the onset of winter, and they are at their most spectacular when the caps are young and pale - sometimes nearly pure white. It takes just two or three days for young white caps to turn grey and then begin blackening.

When I stood just behind the grass and look the waterway and colorful rock, what I can say is just amazing. The wild grass's living environment is tough, but the life there is freedom. it's free for them to breathe the freshest air; it's free for them to see the world's best scenery. Siberian Tiger Mom with Cub

Mother Dasha and one of her two cubs from the Zoo Duisburg in Germany. Dasha is just three years old and these are her first cubs but she is doing a fantastic job raising them! They are healthy and often you can see her playing with them. She lets them chase her and hides from them behind tree trunks and large rocks inside their big enclosure. The zoo staff is very proud of her for doing such a fantastic job! She and El-Roi, their male tiger, just got together in late April when their new enclosure was unveiled to the public and they already produced healthy offspring. Diving down to a narrow saddle, the trail meets the top of Loy Canyon Trail, then climbs up to a fairly flat run. Around 1.0 mile are the remains of an old dry tank and corral. It’s almost easy to miss the corral because there’s just a few posts left, as well as a rusty old dredge. Off to the left just past the corral is Johnson Tank. The tank wall reveals signs of masonry work where the dirt has eroded away. Past Johnson Tank, the trail runs above and to the left of a ravine, where two more tanks hold water. The first, Masonry Tank, is built using local stones to dam a narrow, rocky section of the creek bed. The dam creates a small, shallow pond. Below Masonry Tank is Cement Tank, created from three slabs of preformed concrete. This dam creates a rather large, long, and narrow pond which runs back almost to Masonry Tank. There is a rough footpath running from Cement Tank to above Masonry Tank, a lovely diversion from the main trail. According to the Mangums, this area of forest is virgin. Near Cement Tank, the trail descends to a bench along the creek bed where another, more complete corral and Secret Cabin are situated (1.8 miles from the trailhead). Secret Cabin is in fair shape, its walls standing but its roof has collapsed. According to the Mangums, the cabin was built as a failed homestead, and was later inhabited by a family of polygamous Latter Day Saints escaping persecution, then horse thieves who’d bring stolen horses up Loy Canyon from Sedona en route to Flagstaff and northern destinations. Heading uphill past the cabin, the trail leads up to a ridge with a nice view and more corrals. The main trail leads off to the left for another 2.8 miles. Since it was pretty hot weather, we decided to follow the Mangums' recommendation: we had lunch in the shade of a tree, then turned around and headed back to the trailhead, diverting down into the ravine to explore the tanks on the way back. Nanton Alberta.

In 2001 the last of Nanton’s grain elevator row was threatened by demolition because of recent abandonment of the Canadian Pacific Railway that the elevators stood next to. Many worried citizens in and around the town of Nanton had realized that a part of the town's and province's history was about to be torn down and lost forever. The concerned citizens of Nanton had rallied together and formed a Historical Society appropriately named "Save One". Of course the original goal of the save one effort was to do just that, save one, but before anything could be done to save the elevator the Society had to gain full title to the land and buildings. Which was a big undertaking that would take three years to achieve. With so many volunteer hours from many local businesses and citizens, the Society was so successful that not only did they end up saving just one elevator, but all three remaining elevators. Many donations from members and surrounding farmers-ranchers, have been made and have helped in replacing the railway tracks next to the elevators the completion of many of the repairs and restorations that needed to be done on the elevators. Including painting the former Alberta Wheat Pool back to its original green and the former Pioneer elevator back to the original orange & yellow. Secret Cabin on Secret Mountain Trail. 2009-05-06: On the fourth day of our camping trip on the Mogollon Rim above Sedona, we headed to Secret Mountain Trail #109. The Mangums (authors of Flagstaff Hikes) list this as one of their favorite trails, mentioning they usually stop just past Secret Cabin on the edge of the mountain where there’s a nice view. The weather was unseasonably hot, and we chose this trail not only because it’s interesting, but because it stays at fairly high elevation (instead of diving down into a canyon like so many of the trails in this area). The Bridge at Strath Halladale, near Melvich, Caithness, Scotland, U.K Melvich is a village in the county of Sutherland on the North Coast of Scotland. It is situated on the A836 road, near the mouth of the River Halladale. It has a successful Gaelic choir. The A897 road which runs from Helmsdale, through the Strath of Kildonan and past Kinbrace, terminates at Melvich. River Halladale in Sutherland, in the Highland council area of Scotland. Achiemore is situated to the north of Smigel Burn on the right bank of the Halladale River just beyond where the Allt an Tigh-choinneirnh flows and Upper Bighouse. The village and station of Forsinard is 15 km to the south, and Melvich, on the north coast, is roughly 4.5 miles (7 km) to the north. Culfern is just to the north and contains ruins. The A897 road passes through Achiemore. Achiemore contains the Strath Halladale Mission Church, a Grade C listed building which is dated to 1845. It is a rectangular rubble church with a long 4-bay elevation facing the A897 to the west. It became a listed building on 7 March 1984. When it comes to sculptures, I am intrigues by details. Was the detail deliberate and part of a message or just a detail that was needed to make the piece complete? Here on the lawn just north of the East Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, the sculpture of William Lyon Mackenzie King stands looking towards one of the parliament buildings. The sculpture is in a more modern style compared to the many other bronze statues of former prime ministers and other political figures that dot the ground of the parliament. The left hand of Mackenzie King is the detail that interests me the most. Was this a typical posture for the former prime minister? Or is this some commentary on either him or politicians in general? When I was in grade school, it was common for the students to make false promises with one hand behind one's back and fingers crossed. While perhaps an appropriate gesture for a politician, is it perhaps is a commentary on King's honesty? I prefer to not research the intentions of the artist and let the uncertainly remain. Discovering the true meaning (or lack of meaning) in the hand position would result in a reduced interest in the sculpture. 2009/265/279 Have Bowl, Need Dog

Yes, sadly, I remain dogless. It's not for lack of desire for canine company; it's that my schedule keeps getting more filled with travel that make it feel unfair to take in a dog and then be boarding him/her 50% of the time. It's hard to avoid the pleas from the Humane Society shelter in Payson, the stories of good dogs needing homes in the local papers, and the bulletin board photos outside the Ponderosa Market. But maybe its time to get more creative, or start saying "no" to travel, and get my priorities in order. How can the "CogDog" have no Dog? I would be just a Cog, and at that, I am not biking all that much, so then you can just call me ""!. Yes, sadly, I remain dogless.
