The famous art college, Musei di Strada Nuova and the Palazzo del Principe are also located on this street. Other landmarks of the city include St. Lawrence Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Lorenzo), the Old Harbour (Porto Antico), transformed into a mall by architect Renzo Piano, and the famous cemetery of Staglieno, renowned for its monuments and statues. The Edoardo Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art has one of the largest collections of Oriental art in Europe. Genoa also has a large aquarium located in the above-mentioned old harbour. The port of Genoa also contains an ancient lighthouse, called the "Torre della Lanterna" (i.e., "the tower of the lantern"). Parks Genoa has 82,000 square metres of public parks in the city centre, such as Villetta Di Negro which is right in the heart of the town, overlooking the historical centre. Many bigger green spaces are situated outside the centre: in the east are the Parks of Nervi (96,000 sq m.) overlooking the sea, in the west the beautiful gardens of Villa Durazzo Pallavicini (265,000 sq m.). The numerous villas and palaces of the city also have their own gardens, like Palazzo del Principe, Villa Doria, Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Tursi, Palazzo Nicolosio Lomellino, Albertis Castle, Villa Croce, Villa Imperiale Cattaneo, Villa Bombrini, and many more. Promenades Corso Italia runs for 2.5 kilometres in the quartiere of Albaro, linking the two other neighbourhood of Foce and Boccadasse. The promenade, which was originally built in 1908, overlooks the sea, towards the promontory of Portofino, and the main landmarks are the small lighthouse of Punta Vagno, the San Giuliano Abbey, the Lido of Albaro. Old harbor The Porto Antico ("old harbour" in Italian) is the ancient part of the port of Genoa. The Genoese architect Renzo Piano redeveloped the area, restoring the historical buildings (like the Cotton warehouses) and creating new landmarks like the Aquarium, the Bigo and recently the "Bolla" (the Sphere). The main touristic attractions of this area are the famous Aquarium and the Museum of the Sea (MuMA). Thx 4 The Memories Exhibitions - Photography Events Worcester Boulevard, Christchurch City, After a series of devasting earthquakes in Christchurch, residents in a large part of the eastern suburbs began to hear the words 'Red Zone' and as the Government decreed that numerous homes in suburbs across the city were to totally disappear, the lives of thousands of people were suddenly and irrevocably changed. This large-scale outdoors exhibition by Place In Time, the Christchurch documentary project, records stories and images from one such place, the suburb of Avonside and testifies to their resilience and to the very human strength of their stories. Photographs by Bridgit Anderson and Tim J. Veling. Text by Glenn Busch. SEE THE GULLS: Australian artist Anthony Lister has created an enormous artwork on the wall of Les Mills in the city centre for the RISE street-art festival. Street artists armed with spray cans and paint rollers are coming to the rescue of Christchurch's struggling suburbs and city centre. Dozens of large artworks have been created on walls across the city this month with many more going up this week. The RISE street-art festival has commissioned a dozen large street-art paintings in the city centre, while the From the Ground Up project has organised about 16 large artworks in the city centre and Sydenham. Christchurch business owners and city leaders believe street art will help regenerate areas hit hard by the earthquakes and draw tourists to the city. 10 kilometers (approx. 6.2 miles) southwest of Hong Kong Island lays the Cheung Chau Island. Although it is only a small area, it has a comparatively large population of more than 20,000 people. The residents live mainly in the middle part of the island where the land is low. Because this little island is shaped like a dumbbell - large at its two ends and narrower in the middle - it is also named 'Dumbbell Island'. Cheung Chau Island has been a fishing village since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). All day long the ports are busy with the comings and goings of the fishing boats. In the evening, the port is awash with the soft light of the setting sun. Wherever you look, day or night, you are seeing a beautiful picture.
