New Zealand scaup â€“ pÄpango The New Zealand scaup (Aythya novaeseelandiae) is a little diving duck with glossy dark-brown plumage. It was formerly known as the black teal. Its huge webbed feet are the secret behind its diving prowess. Scaupâ€™s legs are set back on the body and splayed, which makes them good divers but clumsy on land. They swim about underwater to depths of 3 metres, feeding on aquatic plants, freshwater snails and other invertebrates. Among the smallest New Zealand ducks, scaup are around 40 centimetres long and weigh 650 grams. Males have yellow eyes, and a darker body than females. Carl Zeiss Jena DDR 135mm f3.5 Sony Alpha A300 Test shot taken with a Carl Zeiss Jena DDR 135mm f3.5 M42 lens with an aperture of f3.5. When I purchased this lens the aperture blades did not move at all and it was stuck wide open. After dismantling it, cleaning it thoroughly and putting it back together (along with much swearing) it now works properly again. This is one of the first photos taken to check it works as it should.
